The trail is formed by a route that loops through Kirkkoniemi along a narrow footpath as well as asphalt and dirt roads. The landscape in Kirkkoniemi is especially beautiful, and the area also features the Tohmajärvi beach and the Pitäjäntupa café, which is open in summer. There is also a firepit along the trail in Turusenniemi.
The trail features a two-way link to Kapakanpelto along an asphalt road and footpath. In Kapakanpelto, the trail connects with Piilovaara Trail. The Kissavaara area features a more demanding rocky section and a few steeper hills. The Kissavaara section is also connected to the Peijonniemenlahti bird-watching tower and the wetland area with a rich variety of birds.
Kirkkoniemi Trail merges with the nature trails in the area (marked in yellow), which provide more route options. The nature trails are not maintained for mountain biking.
