Akanpolku

Akanpolku, a new outdoor recreation trail that was constructed through town council projects, is located near the southern villages of Tohmajärvi (Akkala, Jouhkola, Riikola). The trail is easy to navigate and features a firepit and swimming spot along the way.

Starting from the Akkala-Jouhkola youth club building, the Akanpolku trail is about 7.9 km long. The trail circles around Lake Siikajärvi and briefly veers to the other side of Kiteentie. A firepit is available on the Siikajärvi beach. The trail mostly consists of easily navigable village roads and there is little difference in elevation. However, there are also some forest path sections around Lake Siikajärvi. You can shorten the trail by about 1.6 km if you start from the parking area of the Siikajärvi beach. This leaves out the road section from and to the youth club building.

Akanpolku distances:

  • Youth club building – Lake Siikajärvi 2.2 km
  • Lake Siikajärvi – Kiteentie crossing/trail junction 3.0 km
  • Trail junction – Kiteentie crossing/start of Lassilanmäentie 1.4 km
  • Lassilanmäentie – Youth club building 1.3 km
